Impact Of COVID-19 On Education In
Conflict Affected Areas
Introduction:
COVID-19 has had many impacts in our normal day to day life, but mostly it impacted on education. Millions of children worldwide lost access to education for months, especially children in conflict affected regions because school is a place where they learn how to interact with others and is also a source of psychosocial support too.
No Access To Technology:
Many kids in remote places of Africa and other places similar to it did not have the necessary technology to attend their classes because of this children in these regions lost 2 years worth of precious education. This put a major gap in Education between the kids who had access to the internet and technologies and kids who were in the conflict affected regions.
Difficult To Afford:
It also really impacted families who lived in the conflict affected regions because they had to go far away distances to work but because of the pandemic they could not go out. Hence many families had to leave their livelihoods which made it difficult to afford even basic needs. So education was out of their expense and the children of these families lost their education because of COVID-19.
Delay In Reconstruction:
In conflict affected regions many schools had to be reconstructed because they were damaged or destroyed by conflict. When pandemic hit they could not finish the reconstruction of schools. And when COVID-19 was over, they had to delay the reopening because they were not fully reconstructed. This widened the educational gap.
Conclusion:
In conclusion the impact of COVID-19 in conflict affected regions has been very profound which made existing challenges worse like disrupted learning and rebuilding infrastructure. To prevent these, the local community or the Government should take responsibility that the children in these regions are ensured that they are not left behind.
